But this same battery can be charged without a problem in slower chargers.The one I got has a life time warranty printed on the package label. I received it timely and started using it. I checked online reviews for several chargers and decided to buy this one because it can charge all sized batteries. It says "see enclosed instruction manual for details". I do not have the problem mentioned in early reviews that the red light went off before the batteries are fully charged.This charger is slow, it takes long time to fully charge the battery. But I've found the quick charger, such as the ones charge in 20 - 30 min, frequently cannot fully charge the battery and in some cases, the charging light flashes and would not charge the battery in that slot. But the manual only says one year warranty. I called the customer service rep and was told that the life time warranty printed on the label is honored if we keep this label together with the receipt.

With power devices (like computer power supplies and battery chargers), some say that weight is almost a direct indicator of quality, and this thing weighs about 2 pounds. It is heavy duty, the sliding springed terminals are robust, and it never fails to do a good job. I've had this charger in continuous use since it was introduced- 5 years maybe. I paid much more for a 4 cell Maha charger that weighed 3 or 4 OUNCES, the terminal tension gave out in about a year and the batteries used to get red hot. I have never noticed any cells overheating. It is slower than some newer chargers (4-5 hours), but when you have room for 8 batteries and can leave them in for a trickle charge, what's the rush- overnight is good enough for me. I just know the Rayovac charger keeps on working, and I still have all my original NIMH batteries, so it can't be doing them any damage. Don't spend 2 or 3x the price for something that is really no better or perhaps not as good

WE checked with DepotEco after Rayovac told us they had the rest of the PS3 inventory.Yes it chargers 1 to 8 AA or AAA batteries, Also it does the C and D and one 9 volt. WE just got our PS3 Charger. It seems that Rayovac has Discontinued the PS3 and swapped it with the PS3D. Both the old and new are now clearly listed on Amazon. Good Charger is the PS3 SMART Charger. WE called Depoteco and they explained that indeed Rayovac had made a change and also that Rayovac is going to discontinue the PS3D because it is not what they hoped it would be.

Because we were familiar with the unit we made sure we were not getting the other Dumb Charger. Yes the correct one. WE use this at work and it is the 3rd unit we have. Rayovac tells us they will release a new Smart Charger to replace the PS3 and the PS3D. So for now Call the Merchants or email them to make sure they are selling you the Older PS3 Smart Charger. Remember PS3D D For Dog.

It really is the best charger out there, hands down.Note that I got the PS3 model. This takes all kinds of batteries, from old rechargeable alkalines to NiMH to NiCD, and of all the standard sizes. It allows for trickle-charging, and shuts itself down after the battery is fully charged to prevent over-charging, so you don't damage the batteries if you forget to remove them. I hear that some people are getting the PS3D model. I don't know what the difference is.

After spending almost an hour on the phone with AceHardwareOutlet, they contacted Rayovac and found out that the PS3 is no longer made, and has been replaced by the PS3D. I bought this battery charger from AceHardwareOutlet on Amazon, and just received it yesterday. In AceHardwareOutlet's database, the UPC number for the PS3D is listed as the PS3. They sent me a PS3D instead of the PS3 described in the Amazon review. The PS3D is not the same (or as nice) as the PS3, which is what most of the reviews on this item are for. There is apparently a "manufacturer replacement" going on, so even if you think you are ordering the PS3, you might get the PS3D.
